Fortunately, there are a variety of tips that can help prevent hair loss in women. If you have noticed a significant amount of hair loss, try using some of the tips given below. If you don’t start seeing results within a few months, consult a doctor to determine if hair loss is caused by an underlying health condition.

Always Keep your Hair Clean

Clean hair is always desirable for maintenance of healthy hair. However, excessive shampooing can strip essential minerals and vitamins from hair, making it rough. It is advised to buy natural shampoos with proper PH balance of 5.5. Put shampoo directly into your hands when shampooing and rub it over your scalp – rather than applying shampoo directly on head.

Massage with Hot Oil

Massaging with hot oil prevents hair loss to a great extent. Hot oil treatments contain proteins that play an important role in repairing hair cuticles. Massaging with hot oil involves heating the oil and putting the warm oil into the scalp and hair, and then covering the hair with a plastic cap to allow oil to soak in. This process results in a shiner and stronger hair — and even helps in breakages.

Comb your Hair in a Right Way

Our hair is strong enough to withstand normal combing and grooming. However, you may lose hair due to poor drying and grooming techniques. Avoid using hair dryers that use high heat, as heat is always hard on hair. If you are using curling iron or hair straightener, do not leave it on your hair for too long. Make sure to move it every 10 seconds. If possible, let your hair dry naturally rather than using dryers.
Avoid combing hair with sharp toothed hair combs, especially when your hair is wet. Brush your hair before washing it to loosen the flakes of dead skin. This makes it easier to clean the scalp thoroughly during shampooing. Combining or brushing the hair again and again can damage the hair.

Avoid using Harsh Chemicals

Using harsh chemicals on hair as a part of straightening and bleaching can cause damage to the hair shaft, resulting in hair loss. Try to stick to your natural hair style, rather than using chemical unnecessarily. If you have to use chemicals to give your hair a new look, you should treat your hair with deep-conditioner at least once in a week.

Avoid Hairstyles

Avoid hairstyles such as pony tails and braids that pull the hair tight. There are some hair styles that cause hair loss, particularly on the side and front region of scalp. Treat your hair as a living thing that grows and it can be damaged due to the stress of constant pulling. Leaving your hair in loose style will give you optimum results.

Fight Scalp Infections using Natural Products

If you have any scalp infection or dandruff, you can treat it easily using ginger juice. Remember that dandruff and scalp infection can be the cause of hair loss. You should address the root cause to prevent hair loss. Ginger juice is a great solution that keeps your scalp free from infections. All you need to do is squeeze some fresh ginger juice and apply it directly on your scalp. Leave it for 30 minutes and wash it with mild shampoo.

Use Fenugreek to Boost Hair Growth

Fenugreek seeds are the most effective solution to boost hair growth. Fenugreek pack for your hair can be prepared in an easy way. Soak a small cup of fenugreek seeds in water and leave overnight. Grind the soaked fenugreek seeds in morning to make a thick paste. Mix a spoon of castor oil to it and apply this paste from the roots till the end. Leave it for 1 hour and wash it thoroughly with warm water.

Apply Onion and Garlic to Prevent Baldness

Onion and garlic are rich in Sulphur and are quite effective in preventing hair fall. These two kitchen ingredients help in promoting hair growth. Make onion and/or garlic extract and apply it on your scalp. Leave it for about an hour and wash it with mild soap or shampoo. Repeat the process, once in every two days for better results.

Essential Oils

Essential oils such as lavender, rosemary, cedar wood, chamomile, thyme, lemon essential oil etc are best for hair growth. Some people might not think that it is essential to apply oil to their scalp, as it contains glands that produce sebum. However, the skin’ natural oil is not enough to prevent hair loss. Essential oils help in promoting hair growth. They are the essence of plants and have many medicinal benefits. The above listed essential oils help in improving blood circulation and stimulate hair follicles.

Have a Healthy Diet

Have a healthy balanced diet to prevent hair loss and keep your scalp healthy. A healthy body is more likely to have healthy hair. You can slow down hair loss by including lots of fresh fruits and vegetables in your diet. There are some vitamins and minerals in fruits/vegetables that are helpful in promoting healthy hair.
The bottom line is – hair loss in women can be prevented using a variety of home remedies and taking little care. Excessive hair fall can be troublesome and often affects the self-esteem of women. Control hair fall using the above tips that are natural and highly effective.

How to Prevent Hair Fall For Females Naturally

Massage With Essential Oils:

There is nothing as comforting as a head massage. Pamper your hair with as many kinds of essential oils as you desire. Essential oils are enriching and great sources of vitamins and minerals. Some of the most popular essential oils include oils of rosemary, jojoba, castor, almond oils, flax seed oil, and sesame oil. The best way is to warm them up a little and mix with either coconut or olive oil. The warmness helps opens the pores and moisturizes the scalp. This, in turn, strengthens the hair roots and reduces hair loss.

Coconut:

Coconut can be used in many forms and for many purposes. It is an abundant source of vitamin E, good fats, potassium, and proteins. This makes coconut oil and coconut milk both a great natural conditioner. You can warm some coconut oil, massage your scalp and leave it on overnight. It will help add shine to the hair streaks. Coconut milk can be used as a base for various hair packs and also for washing the hair, after using the shampoo, to make the roots stronger.

Mild Hair Products:

Our hair goes through a lot, for instance, pollution, heat, sun, humidity, and multiple experiments with styles. All this makes our hair brittle, dry and vulnerable. It is important to soothe them with some mild shampoos and conditioners. Don’t fall for hair products that have strong perfumes in them. You may end up damaging the hair even more. Opt for organic, herbal, or products that have the gentleness of various oils in them.

Aloe Vera:

If we begin to count the benefits of aloe vera, the list really won’t end. It is a super plant that splurges with so many uses. Aloe vera gel can be eaten, its juice can be mixed with fruit juice or honey and consumed, and it can also directly be applied to the scalp. Aloe vera is cool and soothing. It nourishes the hair and drives away the dryness, and enriching the roots.

ACV:

Apple cider vinegar is known as mother vinegar. It is not only good for a healthy digestive system and glowing skin but also a great tonic and nourishing potion for our hair. Either consume a tablespoon of it or use it topically, ACV serves many purposes. This vinegar has amazing conditioning properties, adds natural shine to the hair, and even helps get rid of dandruff. Another way to improve the quality of hair is to rinse your comb weekly with ACV.

Henna:

Henna is also known as Mehndi. It is loved for it cool touch and smooth texture. Apart from being a super conditioner and hair strengthener, Henna is basically a popular choice for its natural color. If you are struggling with hair fall and grey hair, applying henna and leaving it on for 3-4 hours can do wonders for your hair. You can even add coffee powder, oil, and curd in it to give a super punch to your beautiful tresses.

Onion Juice:

This is one very effective and old therapy that you can easily use at home. Grate some onion and extract its juice. Mix a teaspoon of honey in it. Dab your scalp with a cotton ball dipped in this juice or massage the scalp with your fingers. The juice of onions is full of organic sulfurs and kills any bacterial or fungal infection growing in your scalp. Honey adds shine to the hair and also reduces the roughness. Together, the potion can be very useful in curbing the problem of hair fall.

Hair packs and Steaming:

The most wonderful thing about hair packs is that they are countless in varieties and easy to prepare at home. Some great homemade hair pack ideas are a combination of essential oils and vitamin E capsules, soaked amla reetha shikakai and methi seeds, banana puree with honey, curd and coconut oil, aloe vera and egg, and many more. Use those hair packs which suit your hair type. After you have oiled your hair or applied a hair mask, do yourself a favor and let your hair have a treat. Dip a towel in warm water, squeeze it and wrap it around your head for an hour or so. Steaming opens the hair pores, cleans the scalp and strengthens the roots. You can easily do it at home and carry on with the daily chores, while your hair gets the treat of a lifetime.

Troublesome Hairstyles and Harsh Chemicals:

One of the most troubling reasons for hair fall in women is having a hairstyle that pulls your hair very tightly. Experimenting with hairstyles is of course fun but going too far with it is not healthy for hair. Too much curling or straightening requires your hair to go through heat and stretching. Thus, the roots become weak and hair begins to fall rapidly. Go for comfortable styles instead. You can have a loose ponytail, various braids or hairdos that do not test the hair strength for a very long time. Things like using hair styling gels on a regular basis, coloring your hair frequently with low-quality products, shampoos or conditioners that are rough on your scalp make the hair tresses go through a lot of harsh chemicals. For a healthy hair, it is much better to opt for natural care and stay away from chemical products in the name of gaudy brands.

Good Diet:

Nothing works like a nourishing and healthy diet. A great and balanced diet boosts your health internally and is incomparable. Eggs are one of the best protein sources. Eat an egg or two every day. However, if that turns you off, worry not! You can use the egg white, whisk some ACV, aloe vera, and essential oils in it and use this mask for some amazing results. Gorge on the green veggies, pulses, fruits, and nuts to replenish your body with all the essential nutrients and go out flaunting some strong, shiny hair.

Home Remedies for Thinning Hair in Women

Stress:

The first and foremost thing to take care of your hair is having a stress-free life. Women especially are more sensitive to various emotional situations in life. This causes a lot of stress and pushes their body into the survival mode, most of the time causing thinning of hair, along with many other health issues. Having a relaxed lifestyle and mindset to typically difficult situations is actually helpful in preventing the thinning of hair in women.

Proteins:

Our hair is made of pure protein, known as keratin. If you can see the thinning of hair, it simply indicates that the body is starving for proteins. Natural foods which are rich in proteins have been proven to be beneficial for our hair strength and volume. It is advisable to include, in our diet, more foods items like eggs, milk, pulses, soybean, cottage cheese, and yogurt etc. Having such diet consistently for a few months would soon begin to show effects on your hair quality.

Oil Nourishment:

Like our body, hair too needs nourishment. The hair roots become stronger when they are nourished with rich oils. Massaging your scalp with warm coconut oil or olive oil not only improves the blood circulation to the hair roots but also helps in hair growth. You can add a few drops of your favorite essential oils to the massage routine. You can try a few popular essential oils like rosemary oil, hibiscus oil, argan oil, castor oil, etc.

Exercise:

One of the major reasons for hair thinning in females is hormonal disbalance. For this reason, exercise becomes especially crucial for females. A woman’s body goes through a lot during the whole lifetime. From menstrual cycles to pregnancy to menopause, the rollercoaster goes on. Exercise is a natural hormone regulator and keeps the imbalances in check. Thus, a workout is a great way to keep you fit and your hair healthy.

Hair Masks:

Given the pollution and stressful life, oiling doesn’t seem enough. Going out regularly makes the hair brittle, dry, and rough, causing severe thinning of hair. Pampering your hair with different hair masks weekly is an amazing way to keep them voluminous. Usually, the daily things available in our kitchen are enough to make a variety of hair masks. You can use banana, yogurt, eggs, methi seeds, honey, and things like these to prepare a hair mask of your choice.

Vitamins and Minerals:

These micronutrients are quite essential for our good health, but given the small amount in which they are needed, we often ignore them and face the consequences. If you want your hair to become thick and strong, begin with vitamin E capsules. You can directly take them with water. Another way is to squeeze the gel out and mix it with a few drops of oil and massage your scalp with it. Give enough importance to include foods in your diet, which are rich in calcium, magnesium, and potassium to prevent your hair from thinning out.

Aloe Vera:

Aloe vera is easy to grow at home. It requires less care and mostly doesn’t need much water. For it generous useful properties, aloe vera is becoming more and more popular with growing time. Some people peel its skin, extract the gel, and consume it directly. You can also use the gel as a moisturizer and rub on your scalp. Leave it on for an hour or so to get the best results. Aloe vera is a great conditioner and works like magic when mixed with other oils and used on the scalp.

Juice It Up with Onions:

This is the quickest and most effective method. Simply grate some onions and mix honey in its juice. Massage the scalp with this mixture. The organic sulfur in onion would kill any infection and help in the hair regrowth.

Experiment Less:

Experimenting a lot with your hair damages it very badly. The straightening, curling, or coloring treatments available in the market usually prove to be quite harsh on the hair. As a result, the hair strands become thin, brittle, rough, and dull. Trying hairstyles that put too much pressure on hair makes them fall off easily. Try to keep your hair care as simple and natural as possible.

Henna:

Henna is an absolute delight for dry and damaged hair. This natural hair conditioner is also a great boost to greying and thinning hair. All you have to do is soak it overnight. If you are struggling with dry hair along with thin hair, try adding some curry leaves, coffee powder, coconut oil, and egg in the henna paste. Cover your hair with this paste from root to tip and leave it on for 3-4 hours to dry. Using this method on a regular basis for a few months would definitely stop your hair from thinning.

The Famous Trio:

If you really want to give your hair care a genuine attempt, go for this method. Soak amla, reetha, and shikakai together for overnight. Amla helps strengthen the hair, reetha acts as a conditioner, and shikakai prevents the hair from greying. Take care of the ratio of the three. Amla needs to have the highest ratio whereas reetha needs to be used less, due to its sharp nature. For best results, throw some curry leaves into the paste. Apply it for few hours. Then wash with plain water and let it dry. Massage the hair with good oil and shampoo the next day.

Be Gentle:

Combing wet hair, right after the shampoo, is a complete no-no. When the hair is wet, its roots are very weak that time. Don’t try combing your hair until it is completely dry or you would end up making your hair thinning worse. If it bothers you that much, try untangling with your fingertips without using too much force. Also, blow drying should only be used in emergencies. It damages the hair to a very great extent and should be avoided most of the time.

Though there is no clear evidence that hair growth vitamins really work, there is a belief that they help in strengthening and promoting hair growth.
If your hair loss is due to poor diet and vitamin deficiency, you may be benefitted from vitamin supplements. If you don’t have any specific deficiency, vitamin supplements may not help your hair to grow. It is always important to maintain a healthy and balanced diet, even if you are taking hair growth vitamins.
Here is the list of specific vitamins that are believed to help in controlling hair fall. These vitamins should not be used excessively, but in appropriate quantity.

Vitamin A, B, D and E

Vitamins A, B, D and E are vital for hair follicles, as they regulate the immune system and cell growth differentiation. Vitamin D deficiency results in alopecia areata, a hair loss disease. Insufficient levels f vitamin A, B, D and E results in auto-immune disease that loosens the hair follicles.
In a research, it was found that women suffering from hair loss are deficient in Vitamin D. The best food that help with hair growth by increasing vitamin levels in body include – carrots, spinach, sweet potato, tuna, lettuce, ,mango, sweet red pepper, eggs, papaya, meat, poultry, beans and oranges.
Going out for a walk for direct sun exposure will help your body to absorb vitamin D. If you sit in the sun for around 15-20 minutes, your body will absorb roughly 10,000 units of vitamin D. You can also include vitamin D rich food such as – white fish, salmon, mackerel etc. in your daily diet.

Iron

Iron is one of the vital nutrients that are essential for hair growth. Low levels of Iron often results in hair loss, as less iron is supplied to the hair follicles and their growth cycle is disrupted. You can increase iron levels in your blood by adding iron rich food to your regular diet.
Eat plenty of eggs, spinach, black beans, navy beans, beef steak, collard greens etc to treat iron deficiency. Women who are suffering with iron deficiency are at high risk of hair loss. There are a variety of supplements that increase iron count in blood. However, they should be avoided as they may cause iron overload.
If your body doesn’t respond to iron replacement therapy, you should consult a doctor to find the underlying cause of iron deficiency.

Vitamin B-complex provides all the essential nutrients for hair growth. The primary member of B-complex group is Biotin, also known as B7 and is a vital vitamin for hair growth. There are a number of studies that showed the benefits of consuming sufficient amount of B-complex and Biotins. These vitamins help your hair by rebuilding hair shingles that have been damaged due to excess exposure to sun, over-shampooing, ironing, blowing and drying.
Studies show that adrenal glands stimulate hair growth, and vitamin B-complex supports these glands. Hair loss is one of the common symptoms of Biotin deficiency. Research shows that many women suffer from biotin deficiency during pregnancy or menopause.
The best way to reverse hair loss is to take one B-complex vitamin tablet every day. One can also increase the intake of B-complex rich food such as – avocado, legumes, chicken, nuts, potatoes, etc. All these vegetables prevent B-complex deficiency and boosts hair growth.

Zins is not only an essential nutrient for body, but also for hair. Zinc supplements have been used for years to treat different types of hair loss conditions such as – alopecia areata and telogen effluvium. Female Pattern Baldness [With Home Remedies]

What is FPHL

FPHL stands for Female Pattern Hair Loss. It is just another name for female pattern baldness. There is not much difference between the baldness in men and women, except that the pattern is a little different.
In contrast to men, who lose hair from the front and then to end, women begin to show the hair loss from their parting line. The scalp around the parting may soon show more and more hair loss and thus become predominantly visible.

FPHL Process

What happens in female pattern baldness is that with age, especially after the menopausal stage, the follicles start to shrink. Follicles are the little holes that hold the hair in the scalp. As the follicles shrink, either the hair stops growing or they become thinner and weaker and break easily. It is usually seen that women have quite fewer chances of going completely bald compared to men. However, the hair loss around the parting may widen with time. This whole process is roughly divided into three stages based on the amount and intensity of baldness.

Causes of Female Pattern Baldness

  • Female pattern baldness is mainly due to aging. After a certain age of 40-50 years, hormones rapidly change in the body, especially after menopause. This leads to hair loss and hair thinning.
  • The genetic causes play a very crucial role in hair loss. If one or both of the parents have been bald in their ages, the female offspring would automatically inherit the pattern and show hair loss.
  • The other reasons like skin infections, chemical treatments for illnesses, or injuries too may be responsible but they may indicate a different problem in the body rather FPHL.

The Diagnosis

The dermatologist may simply diagnose your baldness pattern by just looking at it. No special tests are needed. However, if it is not the case of FPHL, the doctor may recommend a few tests.
